Ziggy may have the best solution as I am not sure on the upgrade costs on either his or the factory system. The voice commands are really convenient and the Maps app is way better than the NAV in the car.

I agree with Nik above that possibly Android may work better on the GM systems as CarPlay with Apple IOS is supposed to put your phone entirely onto the car's system, however, it is sketchy sometime for sure. Not sure about NAV) Things like SIRI and maps don't seem to work unless you are plugged in with "CarPlay" I believe GM offers ATT data packages for the car wifi networks and wow.pricey with a time limit or you lose the data.Īlso you can pull data from your phone with bluetooth. This is far less expensive over a year than the wifi data I bought for the car.

I have a data cap but an unlimited offer with a free new phone waiting for me when I get back home eventually. I am using my Telus here and roaming is a set rate daily for a maximum of 15 days. That does make sense Bob as the roaming can be pricey if you do not get the right plan. And of course having the phone plugged in to the usb port ensures that it gets charged. Saves a lot of time tracking down a decent station to listen to as you travel in and out of range of stations. One of the other benefits to enabling carplay thru the usb cable is you get access to any music you have installed on your phone, which is especially nice if you don't have siriusxm. But you need to check and compare the cost with your provider. If you do a lot of long distance travel to the US say then onboard wifi may be a better choice than a roaming package from your cell provider. With any of these the map shows on the screen in the dash and you get voice directions or you can mute it if you prefer.Īs someone said earlier, you don't need the onboard wifi to use these apps thru carplay/android auto, you just need a good size data plan on your phone domestically. (2) Google maps - better but not perfect as some areas are outdated (3) Waze - which is probably the best but has a tendency to keep running and takes a concious effort to close it to avoid unnecessary data usage. I have an iPhone and have installed on it (1) Apple maps which came with the phone - not bad but not great. The cheapest and simplest way to get navigation along with other features as someone indicated earlier is to plug your phone into the usb slot in the console box or in my case, the usb slot behind the radio head on my C7. The firm as I recall is York Electronics and they have locations in Oshawa and Calgary. When I priced it out it was about $1100 CDN installed. For that kind of money and if you really have to have a built in system then ask your GM dealer about an aftermarket GM upgrade which is available from an authorized GM supplier.

Navtool highly recommend a professional installer as it is not an easy diy project. It lists for about about $800 USD but is sometimes on sale. Navtool is an aftermarket replacement for the on board infotainment system. Than adding Carbon Fibre to the Corvette. I know this 2014&15 upgrade would be much less Īlso, I've seen the NavTool that setup for his 2015 and I am pretty sure that Google maps gives me traffic info. The latest map information for Infotainment that is already a year obsoleteĪs well. True, CarPlay is not perfect but I am at least not paying over $150 to get It works best when your phone is plugged in via USB (not wireless to the Corvette). So I invested the time to learn Car Play. The fact that she was never complaining about her map as muchĪs I was. Then I noticed the Infotainment map compromises too and had to consider She had CarPlay in her C7 well before I warmed up to it. Click to expand. As easy as meeting up with my Wife and I and we can easily give you an over-view.Īll you need is your phone and a USB wire long enough to connect inside your console boxīetween the seats (discovered it working best there).
